Updating Distribution/Security Groups for the User (Formerly Updating Shared Exchange Mailbox SEM Security Groups)

Updating Distribution/Security Groups for the User

(Formerly Updating Shared Exchange Mailbox SEM Security Groups)

Introduction: (Updated 2/4/2016)

There are 2 types of groups.  A Distribution Group, also known as a Distribution List (DL), is used for mail distribution.   A Security Group (SG) can be used for mail distribution, but is primarily used to assign permissions to file folders (on the G: or S: drives) or access into a Shared Exchange Mailbox (SEM).

To manage both Distribution Groups and Security Groups, open your web browser and type in the URL: https://mail.cwu.edu/ecp then log in with your Email Login and password.

Step-By-Step Instructions:

Click on the magnifying glass icon to bring up the search box. In the search box, type in the name of your Group and press enter.

Shared Exchange Mailbox (SEM) group names will contain FA or RM in the name and be designated as a Security Group.  As shown below, the “Chicken Yard FA” group grants Full Access to the shared mailbox and “Chicken Yard RM” group grants access to the users who can maintain the FA group (yes they can be different).  The “Chicken Yard DL” is an email distribution group that contains members of the Distribution List.

*Please note that you will see ALL groups, not just those that you manage.  You will NOT be able to save any changes to groups you do not manage.

Select the group to update and click on the pencil to edit.

Select the Membership link and update the members, then click the Save button.
