Block or Allow Pop-ups in your Web Browser

A guide on toggling your pop-up blocker in your web browser, including Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari

Some web browsers will automatically have pop-ups blocked and parts of our site will require them to be temporarily disabled to download documents or open new pages on MyCWU and other sites. Here is a simple guide on disabling or re-enabling your pop-up blocker.


Chrome:

 

Step One: Open Chrome.

Step Two: In the top-right corner, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.

Step Three: Click Settings.


Step Four: Scroll to the bottom of the Setting page and Click Advanced Settings

 


Step Five: Under "Privacy and Security," click Content settings and select Pop-ups and redirects.

 

 


Step Six: Under "Pop-ups," select Do not allow any site to show pop-ups (recommended) or Allow all sites to show pop-ups.

 


You may also want to try this alternative way to enable pop-ups.On the top left, next to the URL click on the lower case i inside a circle This will open up a menu. Towards the very bottom, under the popups section,click "Allow" and then click "Always allow on this site."

 


Firefox:

To access the pop-up blocker settings:

Step One: Click the menu button and click on Options.

Step Two: Select Privacy & Security 

 

Block pop-up windows: Uncheck this to disable the pop-up blocker altogether.

Exceptions: This is a list of sites that you want to allow to display pop-ups.

 

The dialog has the following choices:

Allow: Click this to add a website to the exceptions list.

Remove Site: Click this to remove a website from the exceptions list.

Remove All Sites: Click this to remove all of the websites in the exceptions list.

 


Microsoft Edge:

Step One: Open the desktop, and then tap or click the Internet Explorer icon on the taskbar.

Step Two: Tap or click the Menu.

 


Step Three: Click on Settings.

 


Step Four: Select Privacy & security and toggle the Block pop-ups setting. 

 


Safari:

If your pop-up blocker is turned on (Safari's is by default) and you go to a site that has pop-ups, there is no easy way to identify if a pop-up has indeed been blocked. Below are the steps you need to check and see if the pop-up blocker is enabled and disable if you choose.

Step One: Open Safari.

Step Two: In the top left, select "Safari," then select "Preferences" from the drop down menu.

 


Step Three: The preferences pane will open and select "Security" on the top row. Uncheck the the "Block pop-up windows" box.
