Compatibility Requirements:
- Operating System: Windows 10 or 11
- Firewall: Firewall installed and running/enabled
- Microsoft Defender Antivirus: Windows Defender Antivirus installed, virus definitions must be less than four days old, and full virus scan in the last 30 days. For instructions, see Microsoft's Defender guide .

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for CWU users to access the campus network remotely using a VPN client on a Windows PC. It outlines access requirements, including VPN eligibility, system prerequisites, and the initial login steps.
Please note: VPN connections only work from off campus (or via ResNet). VPN is also required for personally owned devices attempting to access network resources on campus.
Before accessing the VPN Client, you need to request access to the VPN Network. You can follow this link to request access: VPN Access Request Form.
Accessing & Installing the VPN
Step One: In Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, enter the URL below. This will take you to the GlobalProtect Portal download page.

Enter VPN URL in browser's URL field.
Step Two: Download the correct GlobalProtect VPN based on your operating system:
- Windows 32-bit: Download and install the Windows 32-bit GlobalProtect agent.
- Windows 64-bit: Download and install the Windows 64-bit GlobalProtect agent.
To confirm your Windows version, click the Start Menu, type in About, and select About PC. The version will be listed under System Type.
Click on your PC's specific download link.
Step Three: Install GlobalProtect with default selections and close the installer when prompted.
Connecting to VPN
Step One: Open the GlobalProtect app and connect:
- To open GlobalProtect, click the Start Menu, type GlobalProtect, and select the app.
- Click Get Started to begin setup.
3. Enter the portal address: remote.cwu.edu and click Connect.
4. Enter MyCWU user name and password and log in.
Step Two: After login, a confirmation window will appear showing a successful connection to CWU VPN Gateway.
