Summary
This is a guide on how to use a second camera for a Lockdown Browser with Respondus Monitor exam. Your secondary device must be able to scan a QR code.
Before taking the test
When using your phone as a second camera, make sure to set:
- Screen Timeout: Set your display timeout to 'Never' or the maximum limit (30+ minutes) so the screen does not auto-lock mid-exam.
- Do Not Disturb: Turn on Do Not Disturb or dedicated Focus Mode. Incoming cellurlar calls or app notifications instantly disrupt the Respondus video stream.
- Wall Power: Always keep your mobile device plugged into a physical charge. Continuous live video streaming drains smartphone batteries exponentially faster than normal tasks.
- Network Stability: Position yourslef close to your wi-fi router. If your local network is heavily congested by others, consider temporarily switching the mobile device
Steps
1. Navigate to the exam you want to take on your computer. After you've registered the first camera, it will ask you to set up a second camera, with the prompt "Second Camera Required"

2. Make sure you've plugged in the second device, as well as turning on do not disturb, and navigate to the QR code page.

3. On your second device, use the camera to scan the QR code. This will open a unique camera page on your browser, make sure you give access to your microphone and camera when it asks for it.

4. Make sure to position your camera in accordance to your instructor's directions, and press "I'm ready". You should see a confirmation that the second camera is connected on the computer. You can then complete the rest of the exam setup normally.
Troubleshooting
*If your camera shuts off while you are in the exam, make sure to contact your professor after the test, make sure to include what time your camera shut off during the test.*
Freezing?
- If the main computer screen completely locks up, turns blank, or displays a critical error block, take a clear photo of the monitor using your phone.
- If you cannot click anything, hold down your computer's physical power button until it turns off. Turn it back on and immediately launch LockDown Browser again to try to resume your session
