Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) allows you to recover you account if you have forgotten your password, as long as you have up to date personal contact information in your MyCWU account. Here is a short video of the process and detailed instructions below.
This service allows you to reset your password after verifying your identity via any previously set up authentication mechanisms such as email, phone, or authenticator methods. The specific options available to you will vary based on what has been set up previously.

Getting Started
- To get started, visit Entra SSPR here.
- Enter your email alias (first.last@cwu.edu) or your username in the form of username@cwu.edu
- Enter the captcha. If the text is difficult to read, it can be recycled or read aloud with the buttons to the right.
Password Reset Methods
ℹ️ NOTE: CWU pre-allocates the Email method for anyone with a personal email address in MyCWU
Email
Microsoft can verify your identity by sending a verification code to your personal email address. We populate this for you automatically from the address provided to MyCWU.
⚠️ NOTE: If your personal email address was not kept up to date in MyCWU, you may not be able to reset your password with this method.

-
Click the Email button. Microsoft will send you a verification code to the inbox being hinted at.
-
Retrieve the verification code from your personal inbox.

-
Enter the code in the verification code box. Click Next.
Phone Call
Microsoft can call a phone number associated with the account. This is often available as a backup method for MultiFactor Authentication. If a phone method has not been registered, it will not be presented as an option for password reset.

- Enter the registered phone number that is being hinted at.
- Answer the call from Microsoft and press the # sign to verify.
Microsoft Authenticator Notification
Microsoft can send a notification to the Microsoft Authenticator app, if previously registered for multifactor authentication and still available on your phone.

- Click the "Send notification" button
- When the notification arrives, enter the numbers on the page. If these are obscured by the notification, press "I can't see the numbers" to dismiss the notification temporarily.
Authenticator Code
Time-based one-time passcodes from authenticator apps such as Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator, etc, can be used for verification if previously registered for MFA. Since there are many compatible applications, documentation will not be covered here.
Finishing up
After successfully verifying via one of the available methods, it's time to choose your new password on the final screen.
- Enter your new password, which should conform to CWU's password requirements:
- Must be at least 14 characters long.

- Uppercase (A-Z)
- Lowercase (a-z)
