Adding a Network Printer - Windows 10

NOTE: If you have the printer already added as an option to print to, please remove it first before updating/re-adding by navigating to the 'printers and scanners' page on your computer. Click on the 'Search Bar' located in the lower left-hand side of your computer screen>open the 'printers and scanners' page>click on the printer you want to update> tap 'remove printer'. 

Please follow the below instructions to navigate to the Printer Setup Application located within your CWU Software Center. Going through the Software Center allows you to add/update a printer without admin credentials.

1.) In the lower left-hand side of your screen, click on the Seach Bar and type 'Software Center'.

2.) Once in Software Center, go to the "Applications" tab on the left.

3.) Select the "Printer Setup" icon.

Choose "Install" (or if you have installed it previously, "Reinstall").

Once finished, a pop-up window will notify you that it is running and you have 5 minutes to locate and install your printer.

Important Note: DO NOT click "OK" as it will dismiss the application and you will NOT be able to install a printer. Leave the box up until finished, then click "OK".

 

You may now proceed to the following steps.

Step One: Click on Start > Settings

 

 


Step Two: Click Devices

 


Step Three: Select Add a Printer or Scanner

 


Step Four: Wait for a few seconds until you see the "The printer that I want isn't listed" button reveal and then select it.


Step Five: A new popup window will open with Add a Printer at the top.  The second botton down will say "Find a printer in the directory, based on location or feature". Click to select this option and then click the Next button.

 


Step Six: Type in your building name into the Location bar (Note: Only list the building name - do not include "hall", you can also just type in the first few letters of the builidng name.) As you type watch the location as it changes below, as soon as you see your buliding listed, click the Find Now button. 

 


Step Seven: Click to higlight the printer you want to install and then either double click it , or make sure it is highlighted and click the OK button as shown below. 

 

 

 

*If you need to just update the print driver, follow the instructions below:


UPDATING A PRINT DRIVER

After the printer application setting is running (see instructions at the top of this article).
You may now proceed to the following steps.

Step One: Click on Start > Control Panel > Harware and Sound > Devices and Printers

Step Two: Right click the printer you would like to update the driver for. 
Step Three:
Navigate to and select "Update Driver" 
Wait for driver to update (less than a minute) and then close the printer setup application window.
