How to Make Business Relationships

Before creating a record in Raiser’s Edge to add an employee relationship search for an existing constituent record using the binoculars.  Use the Safari id number (When known) as the constituent id number in Raiser’s Edge when creating the new record.

If a record already exists in Raiser’s Edge update the current record with the Safari id number, birth date and social security.  If creating a new record in Raiser’s Edge please add the birth date and social security number from the Safari record.

The Business button on Bio1 is pulled from the Primary Business Relationship which is created in The Raiser’s Edge in the Relationships tab.

To add this record to a Employer record, click on Relationships, Organizations, New Organization Relationship.  Click on the binoculars fill in Constituent ID # of the business (employer), find now.  Open it. 

The address box should be updated as follows:

 

Department Name

Business Name

Address Line 1

City, State, zip code

 

Check the box “Print organization name with address”.

Type in Business Phone and Business E-mail.

In Industry box, choose the most appropriate industry (i.e. Educational Services).  Type in position title.  If retired, then add “retired” in Position.

In Profession, choose the appropriate profession from the drop-down. 

In Relationship, choose Employer, or Former Employer.  In Reciprocal, choose Employee or Former Employee.  Fill in Date From with today’s date. The Date To should always be blank. Check the boxes - For this organization, this individual is an “Employee” and “Primary business information.”

Save and Close.

If a box will comes up saying  “Employer Name” is a constituent.  Do you wish to reciprocate . . .” say Yes. 

If a box comes up saying “this address is shared with other records”—select No—do not change the address in all the records shared with this address.

 Make sure BIO 2 is coded with the correct Constituency Code.

 

FORMER or RETIRED employees:

In the constituent’s record, uncheck print organization name with address.  Delete any phone numbers/email addresses.  In Relationship box, choose Former Employer, in Reciprocal box, choose Former Employee.  Uncheck Employee and Primary business information boxes.  Update the Date From date to today’s date. The Date To should always be blank.

If the constituent is retired update the Position to “Retired”.  Change the relationship in the constituent’s record to Former Employer.  Reciprocal: Former Employee.

Save and Close the relationship Tab.

Save and Close the constituent Record.
