Summary
This guide provides instructions for CWU users to access the campus network remotely using a VPN client on a Mac. It outlines VPN eligibility, system prerequisites, and initial login steps.
Please note: VPN only works from off campus (or via ResNet). VPN is required for personal devices accessing campus resources.
Request VPN Access
Accessing & Installing the VPN
- Open Safari, Firefox, or Chrome and go to:
https://remote.cwu.edu

Enter VPN URL in browser's address bar.
- Download the GlobalProtect VPN for your OS.
- Follow the installation steps until you come to the window below and click Close.

Click Close when installation is complete.
Connecting to VPN
- Open Finder → Applications → GlobalProtect app.

Locate the GlobalProtect app in Finder.
- In GlobalProtect window at the top of your screen, type
remote.cwu.edu
in the Portal field and click Connect.

Enter the portal address and click Connect.
- After connection, a success message will appear.

VPN successfully connected message.

Troubleshooting VPN Connection
If stuck on “Connecting” or “Still working,” try:
- Go to Apple menu → System Preferences
- Open Security & Privacy → General tab
- Allow Palo Alto Networks extension if prompted
- If no prompt, restart your computer and try again
