This article provides a link to your quarantine site and shows how to manage emails flagged as spam, phishing, or malware in Microsoft Outlook.
Access and Manage Microsoft Defender Outlook Quarantine Portal
- Log into Outlook and your MyCWU portal.
- Then go to the Microsoft Quarantine Portal.
If you're already signed in with your CWU credentials, the portal will open automatically. Otherwise, you’ll be prompted to log in.
- On the Microsoft Defender Quarantine page, you'll see a list of emails that have been flagged by Outlook’s security filters. From this view, you can:

Filter emails by sender, subject, or time received.

Preview email content before taking action.

Release emails flagged incorrectly.

Delete unwanted emails permanently.

Block senders to prevent future emails.

Request review from the CWU Security Team if unsure about an email.

Select filters from menu on the right side.

Why does CWU quarantine emails?
CWU's Office of Information Security prioritizes protecting both personal and University data. As part of this effort, certain incoming emails are quarantined to prevent potential threats. Common reasons for email quarantine include message volume, attachment types or sizes, and links to external forms (e.g., Google Forms. Common reasons for email quarantine include:
- Attachments that may contain malware
- High-confidence phishing attempts
- Spam detected by email filters

Submit a Service Request
If you can't find an email you’re certain was sent to you, please submit a Service Request. Include as many details as possible to help the Information Services Team locate the message:
- The sender’s email address
- Date and time the email was sent
- Subject line
- Details about any attachments
- If the message included large files (e.g., .png, .pdf, .jpg, .mp4)
- If it contained a link to a Google Form or document
